Best Time to Visit Morocco with Kids: Month-by-Month Guide

The honest answer is March to May and September to November. Everything else can still work, but each season has a catch: summer heat, winter cold nights, Ramadan hours, or school-holiday crowds.

Quick Answer – Best Months for Families

  • Best overall: April, then October, then March.
  • Best school break: October half-term for UK families and fall break for US families.
  • Worst Sahara months: July and August, when Merzouga can reach 40-45 C.

Month-by-Month Breakdown

Month Marrakech C Sahara C Crowds Family verdict Notes
January 8-18 C 5-18 C Low Good Cold nights in the Atlas; Sahara days are pleasant.
February 10-20 C 8-22 C Low Good Ramadan 2026 begins around February 19; plan lunch stops carefully.
March 12-22 C 15-28 C Medium Excellent Best balance of weather, light, and family pacing.
April 15-25 C 20-32 C Medium Excellent Peak family month; book riads and camps early.
May 18-30 C 25-36 C Medium Good Hotter in the desert; Eid al-Adha 2026 falls around May 27.
June 22-35 C 30-40 C Low Acceptable Start sightseeing early; Sahara is already hard for small children.
July 28-40 C 35-45 C Low Avoid Sahara Use Essaouira, Agadir, or pool-based Marrakech stays.
August 28-40 C 35-45 C Medium Avoid Sahara European holidays make Marrakech busier despite the heat.
September 22-32 C 28-38 C Low Excellent Still warm, but the edge comes off the desert heat.
October 18-26 C 20-32 C Medium Excellent Best school-break overlap for many UK and US families.
November 12-20 C 12-25 C Low Good Quiet medinas, some rain in the north.
December 8-16 C 5-18 C Low Good Cold nights, good Christmas routes if you pack layers.

School Holidays – Planning Around Term Dates

  • UK Easter holidays often match excellent March or April weather.
  • UK October half-term is one of the cleanest fits for Marrakech, Fes, Atlas, and Sahara.
  • US fall break in October is almost ideal for desert routes.
  • July and August school holidays are better for Essaouira, Agadir, and pool-based Marrakech stays than Sahara camps.
  • Christmas trips are beautiful, but pack warm clothes for Atlas and Merzouga nights.

Ramadan – What Families Need to Know

Ramadan 2026 began around February 19, with daytime routines slower and some restaurants closed until iftar. It is not a disaster for families, but it is not the easiest timing for a first Morocco trip with young children. Eid al-Adha 2026 falls around May 27; shops close, transport gets busy, and medinas feel unusually quiet for a few days.

Weather by Region – Not All Morocco Is the Same

  • Marrakech: dry heat, mild winters, low rainfall.
  • Fes and Meknes: cooler than Marrakech in winter, sometimes foggy.
  • Chefchaouen and the Rif: greener and wetter, with mist in winter.
  • Merzouga Sahara: ideal March-May and October-November; avoid high summer with children.
  • Atlantic coast: Essaouira and Agadir are cooled by wind, which makes them useful summer escapes.
  • Atlas Mountains: snow is possible above 2000m from December to February.

Once you know the month, match it to the right Morocco family itinerary and then check the wider Morocco with kids guide.
