Following breakfast, we’ll commence our exploration of “the world’s oldest inhabited Medina” accompanied by a local certified tour guide. We’ll navigate the Medina with its “souks” (marketplaces), pausing at the Royal Palace entrance, the 9th-century Karouine Mosque and University. We’ll also explore the burial site of the city’s founder “Moulay Idriss II”.
Lunch will take place at one of the authentic restaurants within the historic Medina. Following lunch, we’ll proceed with our tour to discover the Nejjarine Fountain, the historic Harem Garden, and the Batha Museum. During our return to the hotel, we’ll pause to appreciate a sweeping view of the cityscape.
During the morning, we’ll journey into the highlands to a territory called Imouzzer, covered by cedar, juniper and cork oak forests. This region is renowned for its diverse wildlife, and we may observe various bird species, wild boar, and Barbary apes during our picturesque drive. Subsequently, the route will ascend into the Middle Atlas Mountains where we might notice the hillsides marked by tents and goat flocks belonging to nomadic Berbers who inhabit this challenging terrain.
Following lunch in Midelt, we proceed along mountain routes overlooking the broad Oued Ziz river. Moving past Kasbahs and palm plantations, we travel through the earth-toned city of Er-Rachidia and reach Merzouga in the late afternoon, a town at the Sahara Desert’s edge where we’ll stay overnight.
During the morning, we begin our exploration around the Erg Chebbi dunes. We’ll stop at a Berber dwelling and experience some Gnawa music; with origins in Ghana and Sudan. We’ll discover abandoned mining sites, Berber nomads, and palm tree oases. For our midday meal, we’ll return to Merzouga. After some relaxation time, we’ll meet the camels ready to transport us on a sand dune adventure.
We’ll stay overnight in a furnished camp featuring drum music in the Sahara’s heart, providing an excellent chance to capture beautiful sunset and sunrise photographs. Upon reaching the camp, we ascend the tall dunes to witness the sunset and rest in nomadic tents.
Following the sunrise viewing, we return to Merzouga. We’ll have time to refresh with a shower and enjoy a delightful breakfast. Afterwards, we commence our return journey to Ouarzazate. During our route, we stop at Berber stores where you can buy keepsakes such as fossils, carpets, lamps, leather goods… We reach Ouarzazate during the afternoon and lodge overnight at a hotel.
Departing Ouarzazate in the morning, we’ll get an additional opportunity to explore Ait Benhaddou for lunch and a guided visit to this world heritage location. This renowned 11th-century kasbah served as a filming location for over 20 productions including the celebrated Gladiator. Following lunch, we’ll begin our return trip to Marrakech via Tizi-n-Tichka and arrive in Marrakech during the evening.
A complete day exploring Marrakech. We’ll discover the Menara, a pool encircled by flower gardens that serves as a water distribution system for nearby fields. The sightseeing excursion will include numerous remarkable attractions: The Koutoubia mosque, Majorelle Gardens, Bahia Palace, and Dar Si Said Palace jewelry museum. Optional lunch will occur in the Medina followed by a stroll through Marrakech’s vibrant souks. We’ll savor a sunset beverage overlooking the lively Djemaa El Fna Square from a cafe terrace, dinner and overnight at hotel.
